I'm Aidan.

I am a Senior Developer at the Senedd, where I specialize as a "full-stack" engineer. My daily focus involves architecting and building internal (and the occasional external) web applications using the ASP.NET ecosystem to support the work of the Welsh Parliament.
My technical roots are in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, having earned both my Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees in this field, with a side of robotics.

I've a keen interest in AI and Machine Learning ever since reading i,Robot in my first year of University, where I promptly changed my course from Video Game Development to AI & Robotics.

Specifically I'm interested in the field of Natural Language Processing, or NLP, as evidenced by my BSc and MSc dissertations revolving around sentiment analysis, extraction, classification and prediction based on text.

In my spare time I am also part of the Army Reserve, I have been a Reservist since 2020 when I joined the Royal Welsh regiment where I currently serve as an Infantryman in C Company, 3rd Battalion.

Work

  • Senedd

Currently my main employment is working for the Welsh Parliament, also known as the Senedd. I've been there since 2023 where I started as an ICT Graduate Developer where I develop ASP.NET web apps, mostly for use in-house.

  • British Army

I serve as a Fusilier in the Army part-time and in my 6 years there I have completed a range of courses and training, including being part of NATO exercises, completing a Radio Operators course and even Rock Climbing and Skiing in the form of Adventure Training.

  • Adobe

For my industrial year, I relocated to Dublin to work as a Service Desk Engineer on the Adobe Analytics Cloud. Working within a diverse international team—including veterans from companies like Blizzard provided my first high-level exposure to the tech industry.

Projects

Below is a list of projects I have worked on, either in my spare time, at work if it's public or in University.

Education

I went to Aberystwyth University where I studied Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
for my BSc and then for my MSc I studied Artificial Intelligence.

In my time at University I took part in a number of societies as well as taking up an industrial year between my 2nd and 3rd years of study. I joined AberCompSoc, the computer society as well as AberSailBot, a group that takes part in the International Robotic Sailing Regatta, also known as SailBot, where the goal is to create an unmanned sailboat that navigates through a variety of challenges with limited, if any, human control. As mentioned I also moved to Dublin, Ireland for a year during my studies as part of an industrial year to gain some experience in the tech industry where I somehow managed to land a job with Adobe.
